One year left to Go!!!

The countdown well and truly kicks off tomorrow, 366 days left to go!
To celebrate there is a programme on BBC at 7.00pm showing Olympic footage and whats happening over the country to get excited for the build up.
In my usual creative self, I have wrote a poem to celebrate the big occasion here is how it goes;

One year to go!
Can you believe it’s come round so fast?
The silvers, the Gold’s, the ones who come last
Because One year today, we open our gate
For the whole world to come celebrate
The Daly, The Ennis, The Usain Bolt
Running the show, without many fault
Bring on the Olympics, this time next year
Whose your favourite give them a cheer?
Three hundred and sixty five days left to go
For London to put on the world’s greatest show
For the next year the athletes prepare
World records to smash, the podium to share
The sweat and the tears, the hours of training
I hope for two weeks, GB will stop raining
Let the countdown begin, the clock ticks away
Cause this time next year, will be our glory day!

Flash Mob Hits Flint for 2012 Countdown!

A Flash mob sparked Flint High Street today to mark one year to go till the London Olympic Games next year. A flash mob is a group of people of all ages, just getting up and performing a dance routine in random places. NEW Dance, a local based group, performed in Flint High Street and Flint Castle to celebrate the London 2012 Open Weekend.
Video footage of the group performing;
In Conway, visitors were able to take part in Medieval Games, in Caernarfon Castle there was a Kaleidoscope Art Exhibition based on children’s designs and in Anglesey there was the Launch of Following the Flame art exhibition that will be covering the country in the next year.
I cannot believe on Wednesday, it is exactly one year to go till the Olympic Games! The countdown well and truly begun.
Tomorrow, as I am a borderland inhabitant, I’m considering going across the border and seeing what our English Neighbors are up to, to celebrate the one year to go till the Games. I’ve had a look at the event finder on the official London 2012 website and I’m considering heading over to the Wirral (West Kirby) and trying out some water sports for a cheeky fiver, or go to a number of leisure centre’s and try a couple of classes for a pound! There is even a design your own 2012 t-shirt competition for the youngsters. There are even places where I could try handball and rugby sevens, which are Olympic Games!
I was a bit gutted about the lack of activities in North Wales as all the hype, as usual, has been sent to the south and as usual, if you’re from North Wales, you have to travel to England to experience the Hype! Our nearest screen is in Manchester, which is a bit of a trek for most Gogs (North Walian People). But as I am a BT Storyteller and proud, I am going to travel to try and let followers know what’s happening over the course of the weekend!

The Press Loves Me!

Wow, busy week in the press, I’ve also been in the Flintshire Leader and a snap shot in the Mail, yes the Daily Mail!!! My favourite one though was the Flintshire Chronicle, only because they mentioned that I was a past Miss Wales contestant! Good times!
Started work this week, been a bit hectic and I’ve applied for work experience in Talent I.D. so  hopefully I’ll be helping Power2Podium talent spot for 2016 in the autumn as well as do my dissertation and my BT Storytelling. I’ve also emailed my local press asking if I could write regular articles for them so I’ll see how that goes. Oh, I’m loving life at the moment!
Dame Kelly Holmes was in our county this week, doing a sports day in St Davids Hotel. I missed her and obviously I was gutted!  Our local MP, David Hanson, however lightened the local press informing us; “It was great to see Dame Kelly Holmes here in Flintshire – it’s not often we get an Olympic double gold medalist here! She provided real inspiration for the young people of Flintshire.”
Training for me is going good, I had an awful cold last week so I hadn’t trained for a while, but I got into the blocks Tuesday night and felt strong. Competition next week so hopefully if i get another week of strong training in, I will hopefully be aiming for a personal best. It’s not hard to break my times, but I’m not as fast as I could have been if I started younger and not at 19 years old.
David’s (my boyfriend, whose a much better athlete than myself) has been on a downer for a while because his training is going well, but his racing isn’t so, we’re hoping that soon he’s just going to blow us away with some sub 14.30 time for a 5k or a sub 30min time for a 10k. Yeah, he really does have the potential to run that fast :D. I'm so proud of him and I love him!
Oh, if you’re a regular visitor to my blog, please could you vote for me on the following link;
Please and thank you!

The Runner

A bit of athletic poetry, one of few poems of mine that don't rhyme, however it’s about running and I found the rhythm of the poem quite steady, like a run. It describes the environment of a welsh runner, unlimited country and valleys, whilst probably the only being on the vale at the time.

The Runner
Sailing through the countryside, a swift being unable to stop
Gentle panting of breathlessness, attempting to be the best
Nothing is getting in the way
The lone runner, making their way through the valley
The rolling hills, the dribbling brook challenges to overcome
Nothing is getting in the way
Footsteps on tarmac, echoes through the dewy vale
Hours after hours until the animal prevails, Success is everything
Nothing is getting in the way

BT Storytellers Launch

The link above sums up the Story Tellers.
If you look for the girl in the salmon pink top and white linen pants then you can see me being a little mental in the video.
Yesterday, I travelled to London for the first time since I went to Wimbledon when I was 12 to watch the tennis. It took 2 hours on the Virgin Super Voyager, which is super quick since I live all the way in North Wales. When I arrived in Euston, I had to walk to St Pancras to meet the other storytellers and I had a MacDonald’s Breakfast for a treat, was delicious.  As I arrived in St Pancras, I met other people from all areas of the UK, doing their own story of the Olympic Games and the build up towards it. As, we all chilled with cups of tea and coffee, each of us discussed our version of BT Storytellers with radio and television companies, describing what we are doing and how we are going to tell our story to the UK. As usual, I messed up all three interviews, so hopefully they won’t be on the television any time soon. We met the legend himself, 2 times Gold medallist; Daley Thompson and had our photo took with him and we had a chat on how he still trains to make sure he’s fit to chase his kids around the garden. In the afternoon, after a suburb lunch in the Champagne Bar, we were introduced to another legend; the man who brought the games to London, the man whose organising the games, the man who broke records and won hauls of medals, Lord Seb Coe. He just oozes charisma, a true champion. After having a group photo shoot with both Olympic Legends, the storytellers took the Javelin train, one of the trains developed especially for London 2012, using the design from the Japanese Bullets. It got us from St Pancras to Stratford (where the Olympic Park is being built) in 6minutes, when the previous journey used to take up to 40minutes. It was pretty quick. A tour bus picked us up to take us around the Park, which was such a privilege. The velodrome is an architectural phenomenon, absolutely amazing, the Aquatics Centre as equally impressive. The gardens are looking lush and the Olympic Stadium, the highlight of the day, was truly magnificent, with parts made out of recycled gas pipes. 2012 is going to be so green, there are no parking facilities so you’ll have to train it or lump it. The stadium is not as big as I thought it would be, but inside is amazing. Being one of the first ever people to run down the hundred meter straight, was an ultimate feeling for myself. Usian Bolt will be running in my footsteps.
After a long day, I was thrilled to be invited to the Launch and I can’t wait for future events. I really, really, really want to go back and I would kill to get to go, I’m so jealous of all the 2012 ticket holdersL. You will have an amazing experience and I’m envious of your excitement.

Build Up!

I am acting like an excited school girl at the moment, everything that’s to do with 2012, I’m obsessed with. I had a 2011 50p piece with a rower on and the 2012 logo and squealed like a pig. However, I did cry a teeny weeny bit, when I discovered I wasn’t a ticket holder for the athletics and I was even more distraught when my computer wouldn’t load properly to purchase some athletic leftovers. So I am not going to witness the athletics part of the greatest show on earth, however I am not giving up hope in getting a ticket to the athletics. I will apply to all competitions and take every opportunity to get involved as it comes. If that fails, I’ll camp in London and watch the show from the big TV’s dotted around the city and watch the free events like the triathlon and marathon.
I am totally in love with the Stella McCartney range for team GB on the 2012 website, stunning. However, as I am a skint student, I will have to wait until my student load comes through in September to purchase a hooded top that I have my eyes on.
Remember the 2000 Olympics in Sydney? I was only 9 then but I still got involved with writing and got my poem published in the school newsletter and eventually into a hardback publication; Poetic Voyages a year later. Here’s a peak at it;

O            lympics are here, let’s all cheer,
L              ong jump, High Jump, get over here
Y              ou can take part, if you’re smart
M            en and women doing their best to beat the rest
I               can tell you that Britain will do well
P             eople cheering really loud, can’t you here that noisy crowd
C             ome and see them doing their part,
S              ports in Sydney’s going to start

This got me motivated to write another poem for 2012,

2011
Have you ever had the opportunity
To see a fantastic show?
One year today, the whole wide world
Will see the organisation skills of Seb Coe.

This time next year the games come alive
The tickets are all that we need
To see the superstars of sport
Accuracy, talent and speed.

Olympic torch will see the Kingdom
The country that has so much glory
The historic flame has to visit
Each little town with its own little story

I hope 2012 does not disappoint
The build up to the games is intense
The medallists are our heroes
So to see them, it just makes sense

The countdown begins,
Three hundred and sixty four plus a day
To see the greatest show on earth
Oh yes, and we are going to do it our way!
